Words like inspiring, insightful, and empowering were used to describe our #IWD2022 event.
Presented by Meridian Credit Union Pembroke, our keynote presentation from the County of Renfrew Warden & Township of Laurentian Valley Reeve Debbie Robinson shared these inspiring words, “Have a vision, set a goal, find the path forward.”
Robinson’s story was followed by a special Chamber panel with, Dr. Keltie Jones, Algonquin College Waterfront Campus, Heather Jobe, Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre, Colleen Sutherland, DC Foresight Financial Services Inc., and Valerie Burd-Hyska, Your Independent Grocer discussion a gender-equal world – free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination. Our dialogue facilitator, Cyndi Mills, UOVCC Board President, explored how these incredible local women #BreakTheBias each and every day.

As the event was free, we asked our attendees to consider making a donation to the Bernadette McCann House whose mission is to work for change that will end abuse by providing safety, support and education to all those who experience abuse. The event raised close to $300.
Thanks to the Startup Canada Women’s Community Fund, those who participate in our IWD event had the chance to win one of several free Upper Ottawa Valley Chamber of Commerce year-long memberships. Startup Women stands with women-identified entrepreneurs to help support their growth, future goals, and break down the unique barriers that women are faced with when building a business.
