2026 – Cheryl Jordan

For nearly 30 years, Jordan has been a familiar and respected presence in Petawawa’s business community. Since opening The Country Cupboard in 1996, she has grown the store into a celebrated destination known for its curated selection of home décor, gifts, seasonal items, and handcrafted goods. What began as a venture rooted in folk-art painting classes has evolved into a thriving independent retail business that showcases Canadian artisans and small-scale makers.

Through her commitment to supporting local creators, Jordan has helped provide meaningful exposure to dozens of artisans and vendors across the Ottawa Valley and beyond. Her efforts have strengthened the region’s creative economy while offering customers a distinctive shopping experience rooted in craftsmanship and community connection.

Like many business owners, Jordan faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, she adapted quickly by expanding online sales, increasing social media engagement, and introducing new ways to connect with customers. Her ability to remain resilient while staying true to her values has been widely recognized within the local business community.

Beyond her entrepreneurial achievements, Jordan is also known for her ongoing commitment to community support. She has contributed to numerous local fundraisers, charitable initiatives, and community organizations, reflecting a long-standing belief in giving back to the region that supports her business.

2025 – John Yakabuski 

John Yakabuski served as the MPP for Renfrew–Nipissing–Pembroke for more than 20 years.

John Yakabuski’s influence in the Upper Ottawa Valley reaches back decades.   From his active role in a multi-generational family business to his commitment to public service at Queen’s Park, he has consistently supported the people and businesses of our region.

Yakabuski’s roots in his family’s hardware and building supply business in Barry’s Bay gave him a strong understanding of the realities facing small businesses in rural Ontario, as well as insight into the needs of local entrepreneurs.

As an MPP, he was a strong advocate for economic growth, rural infrastructure, and policies aimed at supporting businesses across the Ottawa Valley.  This award recognizes a legacy defined by service, leadership, and deep community ties.

2024 Bob Sweet 

Bob Sweet, former mayor of the Town of Petawawa, was recognized for his dedicated leadership and lasting contributions to the community he calls home.

Bob Sweet’s impact on Petawawa and the surrounding region has been significant. Through his years of service in municipal government, he demonstrated a strong commitment to responsible growth, community well-being, and local economic development. This recognition reflects a legacy built on leadership, collaboration, and pride in the community.

Sweet’s time in office was marked by a focus on strengthening infrastructure, supporting local businesses, and fostering a vibrant, family-friendly town.  Throughout his tenure, he worked to guide Petawawa through periods of growth and change, advocating for initiatives that enhanced quality of life and supported long-term sustainability.

2023 – Jon Pole 

Jon Pole, owner of myFM, was recognized for his leadership in local broadcasting and his ongoing contributions to community connection and engagement.

Jon Pole’s impact on our region is felt every day through the power of local radio. Under his leadership, myFM has remained a trusted voice for news, events, and stories that matter most to residents. This recognition reflects a commitment to community, accessibility, and local storytelling.

As the owner of myFM, Pole has played a key role in strengthening local media by ensuring that communities stay informed and connected. His work has supported small businesses, highlighted community initiatives, and provided a platform for local voices to be heard.

Through his dedication to locally focused programming and community involvement, he has helped foster a strong sense of identity and pride across the communities and regions myFM serves.

2022 – Lisa Edmonds 

Lisa Edmonds, owner of EGM Insurance, was recognized for her leadership in the insurance industry and her strong commitment to serving the local community.

Lisa Edmonds has made a meaningful impact through both her business leadership and community involvement. Through EGM Insurance, she has built a reputation for trust, reliability, and personalized service, while also supporting initiatives that strengthen our region. This recognition reflects a dedication to professionalism, community care, and local growth.

As the owner of EGM Insurance, Edmonds has focused on providing tailored insurance solutions that meet the needs of individuals, families, and businesses. Her hands-on approach and commitment to client relationships have helped foster long-term trust and confidence.

Beyond her work in the insurance sector, she has been an active supporter of community events and local organizations, contributing to the overall well-being and resilience of the region.
